As Head of Design I was responsible for a complete redesign of the company’s signature piece - one of the leading VPN apps in the world called Hotspot Shield.

Context

At Pango I led a small team of product & marketing designers working on the world-class privacy & security products.

In this project I was responsible for a complete redesign of the company’s signature piece - one of the leading VPN apps in the world called Hotspot Shield. Hotspot Shield keeps user data safe from hackers and identity thieves, while providing unrestricted and private access to geo-restricted websites and services.

 
 

Goal

Rebrand & a holistic redesign of the Hotspot Shield app on all platforms to align with the company mission and for better conversion, retention & LTV.

 
 
 
 

Design

New design is meant to satisfy needs of the validated user personas and evoke the feel of privacy & protection.

In order to expand product offering and user value we added several useful features on top of the standard VPN encryption and virtual locations.

 
 
 
 

Unlocking Value

One of the features that we added to the product is WiFi Wizard. It allows to find & connect to password-protected WiFi anywhere in the world.

Results

The average NPS score went up by 10 points after the release.

After the launch design & usability became the main drivers of 5-star reviews on the App Stores. In the app reviews people admit that the user interface is simple & easy to use, design is intuitive, clean, and appealing while the connection speed is fast and the app is lightweight. New user experience has been also positively reviewed by the industry media including experts from PC Mag, PC World, Speedtest, Tom’s Guide and others.
